David Uosikkinen of the Hooters Presents an All-Star Review of Philly's Best Songs and Celebrated Musicians
From the band that brought international attention to Philadelphia's pop music scene, The Hooters' David Uosikkinen is recording what he feels, are the Essential Songs of Philadelphia. The songs that drummer Uosikkinen chose to revisit were either recorded in Philadelphia or written and performed by Philadelphians. These essential songs feature the band, In The Pocket, a rotating line up of Philly's most respected and celebrated musicians and includes members of The Hooters, Soul Survivors, The A's, Tommy Conwell, Jeffrey Gaines and many more.
Songs are available for download at songsinthepocket.org for 99 cents. A video documentary by award winning producer/director Steve Acito of Bluewire Media accompanies each song. A portion of the proceeds benefits Settlement Music School.
Five songs have been recorded to date, All My Mondays (originally recorded by Joey Wilson & Youth Camp in 1983), Open My Eyes (originally recorded by Todd Rundgren in 1967), You Can't Sit Down (originally recorded by The Dovells in 1963), Soon You'll Be Gone - a tribute to two Hooters band members John Kuzma & Bobby Woods, who passed away last year (originally performed by The Hooters in 1980), and Change Reaction (originally recorded by Robert Hazard in 1981).
About Settlement Music School:
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Philadelphia's Settlement Music School. With six branches in PA and NJ, it is the largest community school of the arts in the United States serving 15,000 students each year regardless of age, race, or financial means. Settlement Music School's alumni includes some of Philadelphia's most beloved residents including Kevin and Michael Bacon, Chubby Checker, Stanley Clark, Kevin Eubanks, Buddy Greco, G.
